Question: Girls are at gender risk of sexual violence and exploitation. Provide three (3) premises for the proposition. Write in complete paragraphs.

I strongly agree with the statement as there are a lot of cases happened in the world involving sexual violence and exploitation of women. For instance, child marriage. Child marriage is considered to be a form of forced marriage, given that kids under 18 years old have not expressed full, free, and informed consent. According to United Nations Human Rights (n.d.), “Worldwide, more than 650 million women alive today were married as children. Every year, at least 12 million girls are married before they reach the age of 18.” This situation is sickening and worrying at the same time as most of the people around the world have been normalizing child marriage since a long time ago until now. I believe such a young girl definitely has no idea about marriage and child grooming, so they had no choice but to follow the lead of unresponsible elders. Hence, girls forcefully had to bear the risk in their life, losing their childhood and people still think it is okay and normal to exploit women’s right especially underage kids.

Next, the way society tend to victim-blaming is one of the reasons why girls are at risk of sexual assault and exploitation. A statement by Inside Southern (n.d.), “One reason people blame a victim is to distance themselves from an unpleasant occurrence and thereby confirm their own invulnerability to the risk. By labeling or accusing the victim, others can see the victim as different from themselves.” There are so many cases such as rape, sexual assault, and violence that the victim does not get the justice they deserve. For instance, when girls made a report that they were raped, society and the authorities themselves are more concern about how that incident happen at the first place instead of who is the predator. They ask that question to know what the victim is wearing when that moment happened, why is the victim do not try to escape from the incident and so on. Hence, girls feel nobody is trustworthy enough to make a report when any unfortunate incident take place as they are the who is going to take the blame instead, not the predator.

Last but not least, addiction to porn lead a person to make and think girls are an object. When someone is watching those unnecessary scenes, they tend to be delusional even when it comes to reality. As stated by Jane Gilmore (2018), “Many anti-porn writers and activists believe porn both creates and increases men’s desire to see women hurt and humiliated during sex. They claim aggression in porn is ramping up and damaging men’s ability to find tenderness and mutual enjoyment in sex with women in real life.” Hence, men whose critically addicted to porn tend to sexually abused women when they cannot fulfill their lust just like in the porn videos did. I believe this terrible addiction need to be stopped in order for men to change their mentality about women and stop treating them like an object.
