Question: You have almost completed this semester, so, how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions please do so as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.    The fact that I almost at the end of the semester is unbelievable since I thought at first I could not make it through this subject smoothly. However, after all, this is an amazing journey that I will gladly and do not mind sharing my experience with my juniors. Critical Literacy is a though yet a subject that gives a lot of benefits to us. For instance, it increases the way we critically think to elaborate some answers as well as sharpening our writing and reading skills.     From what I think, as I begin to learn the subject, I find it quite interesting yet full of complexity since the subject requires students to think critically in most of the topic given. The most interesting part is, I gain a lot of new knowledge about our country since most of the...

Question: During the COVID-19 Pandemic men are doing more at home, in most households the division of housework and childcare has become more equal. How do you view this statement?      I disagree with the statement as women actually do more domestic chores and childcare during COVID-19 pandemic. This is because no one expected the virus will conquer the world and people are required to stay longer at home. Hence, men might find no reason at first to be prepared early to do house chores as well as childcare. Therefore, when they are not mentally ready, women end up do even more work instead during the pandemic. According to Sandrine and Amelia (2020) statement, “ during lockdown, Teni and her husband have both been working from home, but their days look very different. The husband works from 9.30am to around 5-6.30pm, and Teni do feel like he has the luxury of going into a room and can concentrate on his work, but she does not have that luxury, she says, "I do feel...

Question: Girls are at gender risk of sexual violence and exploitation. Provide three (3) premises for the proposition. Write in complete paragraphs.    I strongly agree with the statement as there are a lot of cases happened in the world involving sexual violence and exploitation of women. For instance, child marriage. Child marriage is considered to be a form of forced marriage, given that kids under 18 years old have not expressed full, free, and informed consent. According to United Nations Human Rights (n.d.), “Worldwide, more than 650 million women alive today were married as children. Every year, at least 12 million girls are married before they reach the age of 18.” This situation is sickening and worrying at the same time as most of the people around the world have been normalizing child marriage since a long time ago until now. I believe such a young girl definitely has no idea about marriage and child grooming, so they had no choice but to follow the lead of unresp...

Question: " Malaysia, once praised by the WHO as 'united' against COVID, has gone back into lockdown " is a headline on news posted on 14th January, 2021 by Max Wouden.       I still remember the happiness we felt when for the first time after a year of pandemic, government announced that we have finally reached zero cases of Covid-19 a day. That moment was like a miracle. Now, Malaysia is one of the countries that is currently battling with thousands number of cases and not less than 100 deaths a day. This situation is saddening and alarming at the same time. What a nightmare.     My first assumptions towards the statement are the frontliners might have feel very exhausted and burned out at this point. All of their efforts at first place and the excitement their felt for the temporary achievement had gone wasted. As stated by Tharanya Arumugam (2021), “The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has led to significant emotional stress among the country’s front...

Question: You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this course as you are just started?       First of all, before entering a new semester, it is a must for me to get to know what type of subjects I am going to learn next. I believe this is normal for most of the students as we want to be well prepared mentally and physically. Hence, at the end of semester 3, as we were still in the phase of online learning and quite difficult to keep in touch with our seniors, my classmates and I take a chance to ask our lecturers instead about the criteria of the new subjects that we are going to learn in the upcoming semester. That is when I know that Critical Literacy is one of the subjects and get to know a little bit about it.      Just by looking at the name of the subject, it gives me shivers because of the first impression I had towards the word...
